A historic day for the City Council in Everett, Washington as the first city councilmembers elected by district were sworn into office. Re-elected Mayor Cassie Franklin also took her oath of office in a ceremony Monday afternoon at the Everett City Council chambers. It was a socially distanced event with some family members in attendance and everyone wearing masks. This is the first time in the history of the City of Everett that the majority of city council members are female. Several spoke of “breaking the glass ceiling” and all said they were excited to get to work at their first regular meeting set for 6:30 PM Wednesday January 5th. That will be a remote meeting as due to another increase in COVID-19 cases in person meetings aren’t likely to return until this spring.
