Recently, there has been a crime spree of burglaries and malicious mischief in south Everett with numerous businesses along 19th Ave SE, near Silver Lake, and Everett Mall Way being victimized. As the crimes continued, patrol officers recognized the modus operandi (MO) of the crimes was similar and reviewed reports back to September.

Many of the crimes had storefront windows broken, shot with a BB gun, or removed without damage and merchandise was taken. Detectives reviewed over 30 cases and found that most occurred within a mile of each other and a grainy surveillance video of a potential suspect on a bicycle was found. Detectives believed the suspect lived near Silver Lake, rode a bicycle to commit crimes and used the Interurban Trial to get to SE Everett Mall Way.

During the investigation, Property Crimes Detective Israel recalled a stolen U-Haul truck case in September where windows had been broken at a nearby business. The suspect in that case was staying at a nearby motel and body worn camera video of past contacts with the suspect showed he had similar features, wore similar clothing and rode a matching bicycle. Through investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest a 25-year-old male.

Officers with the Anti-Crime Team located the male suspect at the same motel he was contacted in September and arrested him. A search warrant allowed detectives into the suspects room where a suction cup used to remove windows, a BB gun, clothes, and stolen property was seized. Due to medical concerns, the male was transported to a local hospital, but he was medically cleared and booked into the Snohomish County Jail tonight for possession of a stolen vehicle in the U-Haul case.

Detectives continue investigating the burglary and malicious mischief incidents and expect to forward criminal charges against the suspect to the Prosecutor’s Office for those cases.
