Editor’s Note: On September 19th candidates in the November 2nd General Election for Mayor, Everett City Council Districts, Everett School Board and Port of Everett Commissioner were invited to send a statement up to 500 words to MyEverettNews.com introducing themselves to our readers. Not all of the candidates responded but we are publishing unedited statements from those that did reply by our deadline. MyEverettNews.com does not endorse candidates but thinks this is a good way for you to hear directly from the people running. All offices are non-partisan.

David Simpson
Candidate for Re-election Port of Everett Commissioner District 1
My name is David Simpson, I am a retired Boeing Company Employee and have been a resident of the city of Everett and Snohomish County for the past 46 years. This is a great place to work and raise a family. In 1997, I lost my only child to cancer. I was very proud of him and his engagement in the Everett School District. I’ve had the opportunity to be very engaged with the communities of Everett and Snohomish County. Over the years I’ve volunteered my time, been a local business owner, served on numerous boards and commissions, and held several public offices. In the past I served as an Everett City Councilman, a Washington State Representative for the 38th Legislative District and, as a Snohomish County Charter Review Commissioner. Currently, I’m the Port of Everett Commissioner representing the citizens of District 1. I was elected to the Port Commission in 2019 and I’m running to retain that position. The economic downturn and covid-19 pandemic of 2020 have hit our local communities and port region economy hard. I ran for the port commission because I was impressed with the commitment by the port to invest in economic development that created jobs, and provided environmental stewardship. Today, I am running for re-election to ensure that Everett residents continue to see community benefits from their Port Commission. As Vice-President of the Commission, I’ve been proud to lead efforts to meet both economic and pandemic-related challenges. On my watch, we’ve guided our Port to be more competitive in the region, created family-wage jobs, generated revenue and ensured our environment is protected. The Port of Everett is well positioned for even more economic growth and recovery. I want to return as the Commissioner for District 1 to continue and build upon this work for a full six year term. I appreciate your support and your vote in the general election. To learn more about me visit the campaign website at www.committeetoretaindavidsimpson.com .
