Your chance to see the WNBA Playoffs in person right here in Everett, Washington happens this Sunday at 12 Noon. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Seattle Storm knows its opponent in Sunday’s second-round game of the 2021 Storm Playoffs presented by Symetra: its Western Conference rival, the Phoenix Mercury. The single-elimination playoff game tips off at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Angel Of The Winds Arena in Everett and will be broadcast on ABC.
Phoenix, the No. 5 seed in the WNBA Playoffs, escaped with an 83-82 win over No. 8 New York in its first-round game on Thursday night. The Mercury, who improve to 5-1 in first-round games all-time, head back to Seattle for a rematch of the Storm’s regular-season finale on Friday, Sept. 17. Seattle won that game 94-85 to clinch the No. 4 seed and earn the first-round bye which dropped Phoenix to the No. 5 seed. In that game, Storm guard Jewell Loyd scored 37 points—the most by a player in the WNBA this season—including tying a WNBA record with 22 points in the first quarter.
Seattle won the season series with Phoenix 2-1, winning both games at home by seven and nine points, respectively, and losing in Phoenix 85-77. The Storm has won eight of the last 10 games in the series overall and leads the all-time series 46-32. That includes a 25-14 edge at home and a 3-0 mark in games at Angel Of The Winds Arena. However, the Mercury lead the playoff series 7-6 with the home team winning nearly each game. The Storm is 5-2 at home vs Phoenix in the playoffs, winning its last three, while the Mercury hold a 5-1 edge in Phoenix. Overall, Phoenix is 3-1 in second-round games—all on the road—while Seattle is 1-3 and 1-0 at home.
