DUI Victims Memorial Wall Re-Dedication In Everett Friday Afternoon

Friday August 20th, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. the new Snohomish County DUI Victims Memorial wall will be unveiled and re-dedicated. The event and unveiling will be located at the North East corner of the Snohomish County Campus located at 3000 Rockefeller Avenue in Everett. Media is invited to attend.

This project is a combined effort with the Snohomish County Executive Office, Snohomish County Council, Snohomish County Parks Department and Snohomish County Facilities Department and the Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Task Force and has been years in the making.

The original wall, containing 45 names of Snohomish County Residents who were victims of DUI crashes was dedicated in July of 2001 at McCollum Park. Once a serene area off of a trail in the woods, the wall became victim itself to repeated vandalism. After subsequent brick dedications, the wall filled and additional brick space was needed.

Efforts by victim families to move the wall to a new location began in 2019. A committee was formed and the County Campus location selected. The new location will be protected by County Campus security, is ADA accessible, and provides enough space for future expansion. The new wall system allows for rain slough off to keep the bricks from degrading, along with an anti-graffiti coating.

The Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Task Force will also be unveiling a plaque next to the wall dedicated to Officer Mark Brinkman of the Lynnwood Police Department. Officer Brinkman passed away unexpectedly in April. Officer Brinkman was a tireless advocate for traffic safety in Snohomish County and was especially passionate about DUI enforcement, making thousands of DUI arrests throughout his career.

At 8:00 p.m., a DUI enforcement patrol will hit the road in Snohomish County looking for impaired drivers. This enforcement will be dedicated locally to the DUI victims on the memorial wall. The countywide patrol is in conjunction with our partners at the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, which will be kicking off a statewide DUI patrol in dedication to Officer Brinkman. Local patrols this weekend will continue throughout the weekend, coinciding with the Taste Edmonds event. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Lynnwood Police Department, Marysville Police Department, Everett Police Department, Monroe Police Department and the Washington State Patrol will be participating.
