Lots of talk about vaccines for humans but you can’t forget about the pets. Word in from the Everett Animal Shelter about a low cost vaccination clinic next week. Here’s what you need to know.

The Everett Animal Shelter is hosting a low-cost pet vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the shelter (333 Smith Island Rd., Everett).

The low-cost pet vaccinations are available by appointment only to pet owners who meet income thresholds in Snohomish County. Microchips and pet licenses will also be available for purchase.

“Vaccines save lives, and that includes our beloved pets’ lives too,” said Glynis Frederiksen, animal services manager. “We’re excited to be able to help our community vaccinate their pets to protect them from diseases and help them live long, healthy lives.”

Dog (DAPP), cat (FVRCP) and rabies vaccines will be available to eligible pet owners for $15 each, per pet. Microchipping will be available for $25 per pet. The DAPP vaccine protects dogs from distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvo. The FVRCP vaccine protects cats from feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia.

“We’ve seen a lot of canine parvo in our community this past year,” said Frederiksen. “It’s a deadly disease that’s easily preventable with vaccinations.”

The shelter plans to offer additional vaccination clinics in the future.
