Heads Up For Boeing Freeway Closures Next Week

March 18, 2021

Everett

This reminder in from the Washington State Department of Transportation about upcoming work on the Boeing Freeway.

A look at the Westbound detour route.

People who use State Route 526 near the Everett Boeing facility should prepare for overnight and early-morning delays next week while traffic is detoured around a work zone closure.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will use overnight closures to install a new sign bridge over SR 526 and remove an old one that has reached the end of its life expectancy. A sign bridge at the northbound I-5 off-ramp to SR 526 and SR 527 will also be replaced.

Closure details:

  • Monday, March 22, to the morning of Wednesday, March 24 – Both directions of SR 526 between Seaway Boulevard and Airport Road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. Traffic will be detoured to Casino Road.
  • Wednesday, March 24, to the morning of Friday, March 26 – The northbound I-5 off-ramps to SR 526 and SR 527/SR 99 will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly with a signed detour via I-5. Travelers in the area may want to exit early. Otherwise, they will be detoured off northbound I-5 at 41st Street (the next available exit) to return on southbound I-5.

As part of the project, crews replaced a variable message sign (VMS) on northbound I-5 south of SR 526 that will relay real-time information to travelers for years to come.

Drivers can get traffic information on their mobile phone with the WSDOT traffic app and by following the WSDOT traffic Twitter feed.
