If you’re looking to enjoy some Holiday lights and a nice walk, here’s an opportunity. Beginning Tuesday you are invited to experience Wintertide Lights at the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens at Legion Park in Everett, Washington. Here’s more from Renee Greenleaf.
Walking outside is one pleasure left as Covid restrictions increase in the state. The Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is well-known as a great place for a stroll and for the first time ever, the Arboretum will light up its gardens for festive evening walks. From December 1st-31st lights will turn on at dusk and turn off at 8 PM. State guidelines mandate that groups should be smaller than five people, masked and distanced.
Eileen Simmons, incoming President of the Arboretum, explains, “It was suggested that the Arboretum provide a family experience for the holidays. Our board has long wanted to offer holiday walks, and with all that’s gone on this year, it seemed like a very happy, hopeful thing to do.”
“Parents, seniors, all ages really, have had a rough time navigating life this year,” she says. “Our goal is to provide the community with a safe outdoor activity everyone can enjoy. It’s part of our mission to be inspirational and accessible.”
Support for Wintertide Lights came quickly and began with truly generous individuals in the community. Corporate sponsors were equally enthusiastic and include Lamoureaux Real Estate, Natural Systems Design, Newland Construction and Snohomish County Master Gardeners.
Giving Tuesday happens on December 1st and coincides with the first night of Wintertide Lights. Growing this event annually is the board’s goal. They hope to raise $5,000 for 2021. A $10 donation allows them to add an arborvitae gnome to the display, while a donation of $200-500 lights a tree, depending on size.
