Everett City Council Members Stonecipher And Murphy Speak Out On COPS Grant

August 28, 2020

Everett Government

Editor’s note: This evening I received the following message from Everett City Council member Brenda Stonecipher regarding the Everett City Council’s actions Wednesday night regarding a Federal grant the Everett Police Department had applied for and received approval which required acceptance by the council. A vote on that acceptance never happened as the motion to vote on the agenda item died for fail to achieve a second. Here is a link to our story posted yesterday afternoon.

Hi Leland:

I appreciated your coverage of the Council vote on the COPS grant, though I was a little disappointed that full and accurate information about the financial commitment that the City needed to make was not adequately explained. I’m attaching a letter that Scott Murphy and I have co-authored, which may provide your readers with greater context about the decision.
