A semi that flipped and lost its load at El Capitan Way and 19th SE in the Eastmont neighborhood caused hours of backups and delays for motorists in Everett, Washington. It happened around 2:30 Friday afternoon.

Everett Fire crews were called out on a possible hazardous materials standby for sodium hydroxide. The load on the truck did not break apart but crews established a safety zone which led to the complete closure of 19th SE.

Cranes were brought in to right the semi which was a slow process. As 19th SE closed in both directions cars quickly backed up alternate routes including Everett Mall Way, 7th SE, 100th SE and 112th near Silver Lake.

After about four and a half hours Everett Fire crews were able to clear the scene. Department of Ecology crews stayed onsite to deal with some containers inside the trailer that leaked. According to Ecology some corrosive material spilled to soil near the trailer and contractors are being brought in to remove containers & clean up. There were no reported injuries. The State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Division is investigating.
