Staffers are being hired to get ready for the opening next month.

The Evergreen Branch of the Everett Public Library, located at 9512 Evergreen Way, will re-open to the public on Friday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. with a grand re-opening celebration and ribbon-cutting. The Evergreen Branch will resume full library service on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. The community is invited to visit the library for a weekend of family-friendly programming.

The Evergreen Branch library closed to the public late last year, after Everett City Council approved funding for an expansion project. Council awarded a construction contract to Faber Construction Co., which submitted the lowest bid in a competitive process. Dykeman Architects was responsible for the library’s remodel and expansion design. The overall project budget is $6.9 million, including design, construction, project costs, sales tax, and contingencies.

“The new and improved Evergreen Branch library will be a wonderful resource for Everett residents,” said Mayor Cassie Franklin. “It will offer state-of-the-art amenities and gathering space, along with new services and resources to better meet the needs of our diverse, growing community.”

The Evergreen Branch library is heavily used for its technology access and as a community anchor for residents in south Everett. The expansion includes updated technology infrastructure, more meeting room space, a children’s activity room, a laptop bar and quiet study spaces. “In addition to books and electronic resources, this renovation allows us to provide transformative experiences and user-friendly spaces that make a positive difference in Everett,” said library director Abigail Cooley.

As Everett Public Library prepares to re-open the Evergreen Branch library, the Library Board of Trustees has approved a change in library service hours, effective Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019.

The Evergreen Branch and the Main Library, located at 2702 Hoyt Ave., will be open the following hours:
Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The library board voted to make library service hours equitable at the Main Library and the Evergreen Branch,” said library board president Laurie Ummel. “We also responded to an increased need for library services and resources on Thursday evenings by keeping the library doors open until 8 p.m.”
