City Budgeting 650 Million Dollars To Run Everett, Washington In 2020

On Wednesday Mayor Cassie Franklin will make her 2020 budget address. She has scheduled a media availability at 10 AM in the City Council chambers. There she will be joined by Everett City Council Member Scott Murphy. He is Chair of the Council Budget and Finance Subcommittee. The Mayor will offer highlights of the proposed budget, followed by a brief question and answer session with the media.

At the 6:30 PM city council meeting the Mayor will officially present the budget proposal to the council. In all there will be three hearings on the budget. The first hearing is this Wednesday night. The second on Wednesday November 6th and a final on Wednesday November 13th.

The Mayor’s budget address will be made available on the City of Everett website and copies of the budget documents will also be posted for public review. People who live in Everett are encouraged to attend the public hearings over the next three Wednesdays and offer comments and testimony to Everett City Council members. It is up to the city council to approve the budget and they can make changes to spending proposals by the Mayor.

By law the Everett City Council has to approve a balanced budget by the end of the year.
