The VOA may provide more pop-up food pantries in neighborhoods across Everett, Washington.

Saying the building is too small for the current needs of both the distribution center and the Everett Food Bank the Volunteers Of America Western Washington is asking the City of Everett to restructure an old loan agreement that would allow it to sell their property at 13th and Broadway and find a larger warehouse space.

In support of their request to the city to rework the loan the VOA wrote: “The current location does not provide adequate space for receiving, sorting and distributing the food needed to support the food-insecure population of Everett. A larger facility to serve more neighborhood pop-up food pantries would be an ideal solution.”

The VOAWW currently handles food distribution services for 18 food banks and 14 meal sites throughout Snohomish County. The Everett Food Bank Program consists of the Everett Food Bank itself, two satellite/pop-up food pantries, home deliveries of meals, community college food pantries, school backpack programs and additional support for schools serving food-insecure students.

No site has been publicly identified for a new facility with the need for the Everett City Council to take action first so the property can be put on the market. There is a briefing for the council this Wednesday with action possible on the 30th of this month.
