Grand Avenue Park Bridge Lift This Week

September 23, 2019

Sunday afternoon crews were assembling part of the lift supports.

Kinda like a big puzzle coming together.

The lift and rotation of the Grand Avenue Park is getting closer and will happen this week. Here is the latest update from the City of Everett.

We are a go for lift off!

On Saturday afternoon, Sept.21, the contractor used the four large lifting towers to raise the bridge just high enough to get the transporters out from underneath it.

The contractor is getting ready to raise the bridge about 36 feet. The big lift is expected to begin later Sunday, Sept. 22. Watching the bridge lift on the time-lapse camera online is encouraged (using the full screen mode select the film strip icon to advance in five minute increments).

Once to full elevation, two sets of transporters with secured cribbing will be moved underneath the bridge, and the weight of the bridge will be transferred to the transporters and cribbing.

  • A short high-quality video that explains how the bridge will be lifted and moved into place is available on the project webpage everettwa.gov/GAPB and on the City of Everett Facebook and Twitter accounts. Sharing the video is encouraged!

Final movement and placement of the bridge over the railroad tracks is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25 but is dependent on several factors including final authorization by the railroad. If the installation date should change, that will be shared. For more information, visit everettwa.gov/GAPB.

West Marine View Drive was closed to through traffic from 13th to 18th Streets on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and will be closed through Thursday, Sept. 26. A pedestrian exclusion zone is in force in and around the work site, and the pedestrian waterfront trail and sidewalk will be closed north of Lombardi’s Restaurant. During the closure, access to or from the ADA dock must be arranged with the contractor.
