Everett Flooding Update

This in from the City of Everett after last night’s heavy rains.

Effective immediately, temporary traffic restrictions are in place on West Marine View Drive through early Wednesday to allow crews to concurrently repair three underground water pipes that were damaged during the recent rain storms. Intermittent lane closures are in place, and drivers are encouraged to be mindful of the road crews as they travel through the area.

Yesterday’s torrential rains (microbursts) produced back-to-back events twice the size of a 100-year storm (the largest storm expected in a 100-year period), causing flooding in isolated parts of Everett. The intensity of rain produced 1.82 inches in one hour in the early afternoon, and 1.69 inches in 2.8 hours in the late afternoon/early evening.

The microbursts overwhelmed the capacity of Everett’s stormwater pipes in some areas, including along West Marine View Drive where crews found three stormwater pipe breaks in the vicinity of 13^th and 19^th Streets.

The Grand Avenue Park Bridge project is specifically designed to convey wet weather flows off the bluff to both combined sewer and stormwater outfalls that act as relief points during extreme wet weather events. The large combined sewer and stormwater outfall pipes are already installed under the bridge that is currently awaiting installation later in September.

City of Everett crews continue to respond to reports of flooding and damage reports as a result of the recent rain events. Property owners who have experienced flooding as a result of today’s storm events are encouraged to call Public Works 24-hour Dispatch at 425-257-8821 to report their situation and, if needed, to file a claim for damages using the City’s website.
