Editor’s Update Sunday 8:20 AM: The Everett Police Department has provided the following update:
A witness to the collision told officers that the suspect was standing nearby, in a group of onlookers. An adult male in his 50’s was contacted and detained. A handgun was recovered from his pocket. Detectives interviewed the suspect and later booked him into the Snohomish County Jail for Murder 2nd.
It is possible that people passing through the area may have witnessed this event. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
About 7:12 PM Everett Police received a call of a shooting on 51st Place SW off Glenwood Avenue. Right after that they received calls of a major crash in the 5200 Block of Glenwood.
The first arriving police unit reported an SUV into the back of a Honda on Glenwood and the person in the SUV had been shot.
A check of 51st street SW found no problems there but at the crash site on Glenwood Everett Fire Department aid crews were unable to help the gunshot victim who was declared dead at the scene.
Arriving Everett Police officers were able to locate and detain a person who police say they believe was involved in the shooting.
Major crimes detectives have been called out to investigate and Glenwood will remain closed for a couple more hours as the crime scene is processed. Everett Traffic investigators have also been called to the scene.
Detectives are talking to witnesses and trying to put together the circumstances surrounding both the shooting and the crash.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner has arrived and will determine the cause and manner of death and release the identity of the victim.
