What is the right amount of money to pay an elected official in Everett? There will be two chances for public input with the first this Thursday.

Every couple of years an appointed citizen’s commission meets to set the salaries of the City of Everett elected officials including the mayor, council members and judges.

The time has come for the commission to convene and the first of two chances for the general public to weigh-in is at a public hearing scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, February 21 in Suite 10-A of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Avenue, Everett.

The City’s Citizens Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials meet to adopt a salary schedule for City of Everett elected officials.  The commission meets every other year and is required to complete its work by the first week in May.  The salary commission is currently convening and the public is invited to attend.  Meetings will take place in the Wall Street Building, Mayor’s Conference Room, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

The Commission gathered for the very first time in January 1997 as a result of a recommendation by the Everett Charter Review Committee and subsequent approval of voters in the November 1996 general election.

Responsibilities
The Commission is charged with reviewing and establishing the salaries of the city’s elected officials, who include 7 City Council members, the Mayor and 2 Municipal Court Judges.
