Everett Paraeducators Plan To Picket School Board Meeting

Everett Schools

If you see picketers outside of the Everett School District headquarters this afternoon those aren’t teachers they are paraeducators.

Yesterday the Everett paraeducators union decided to hold information picketing and speak at the Everett School Board meeting tonight.

The union is asking the School District to open up their contract for bargaining over salaries after Everett teachers received a 15.5% raise. Last year the paraeducators union agreed to a four year contract with Everett Schools that calls for a 2% raise each year.

In Everett paraeducators assist teachers with daily classroom operations, prepare materials, work with and tutor students one on one and in group settings, provide first aid, oversee student safety and perform a number of other duties in support of teachers and students.

Last night paraeducators in the Mukilteo School District which has several schools in the Everett City limits were in front of the Mukilteo School Board meeting asking for their contract to be reconsidered as well.
