Editor’s Update Wednesday Sept 5th 7:40 PM: The Snohomish County Medical Examiner issued the following informational update this afternoon. SCMEO completed the exam of William L. VanMechelen, 46, of Everett, WA, who died in his residence in the 700 block of Madison Street in Everett, WA, on September 02, 2018. The COD is gunshot wounds. The MOD is classified as Homicide.

Here is an update from Everett Police on the shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Madison Street Sunday morning.

Detectives continue investigating the death of an Everett man.

Detectives continue investigating the shooting death of a man that occurred yesterday in the 700 block of Madison Ave. After the shooting, the 94 year-old suspect was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett where he remains due to mental health concerns.

Criminal charges will be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for review and charges, if any.

It has been confirmed that the suspect and victim are related as grandfather and grandson.

There remains no motive for the shooting.
