Applicants Still Sought For Everett School Board

The Everett School District has extended the time for people wanting to serve on the School Board to get in their application materials. The new deadline is September 7th. Here’s more for those who may be interested.

School board extends timeline to apply for open board position

Board member will serve through November 2019 in Position 1

To apply for the vacant Position 1 on Everett Public Schools’ Board of Directors, you must be a:

·         citizen of the U.S.

·         resident within Everett Public Schools boundaries

·         registered voter

Interested citizens must submit application materials by Sept. 7, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. Materials must include:

1. a biographical sketch
2. a statement about interest in being a board member
3. name, residential address, contact phone number and email address

Application packets must be received by Sept. 7, 2018, 4:30 p.m. You may mail or deliver in-person to Everett Public Schools, c/o Superintendent’s Office, 3900 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201.

You may also email application material to superintendent@everettsd.org by Sept. 7, 2018, 4:30 p.m.

The previous deadline for applications was Aug. 24.

Candidate nomination and application materials are subject to public disclosure under Washington’s Public Records Act.

“Individuals in our district may directly apply for the position if they are interested; people do not need to be nominated to apply for this position,” explained school board president, Caroline Mason. She also noted the superintendent will share a summary of board member responsibilities to all who are interested.

Potential applicants are invited to review school board information on the district’s school board webpages. “People considering this position might find the background material online in BoardDocs particularly helpful,” Mason suggested.

Background

Everett Public Schools voters elect five board members to represent the public’s views on how education should be governed locally.

Each member serves a six-year term. Together, directors are responsible for establishing the district’s goals and policies. The board is the governing body that approves the district budget. The superintendent is the board’s chief executive officer. The superintendent and district staff carry out the board decisions.

Current board members are:
