About one o’clock this morning Everett Police were called to a burglar alarm at the Value Village in the 6200 Block of Evergreen Way. An arriving patrol unit found an open door and saw a suspect running south on Fleming. Additional Everett Police arrived and an Everett K9 Unit also responded.

As several south and central patrol units set up containment in the area the K-9, handler and another patrol officer followed the track of the suspect south on Fleming from Value Village and then west behind a house in the 6400 block of Fleming. The suspect was located hiding in a back yard and after some convincing from the K-9, surrendered to police without having to be contacted by the dog.

The K-9 team recovered additional evidence and officers attempted to book the suspect into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary and several misdemeanor warrants but according to Everett Police the suspect was refused booking at the Snohomish County Jail. Instead he was released and officers will refer the case to the Prosecutor’s office for charges. The jail uses several criteria in deciding whether a suspect can be booked and Everett Police Sgt. Maryjane Hacker said she could not comment on the specific reason why booking was declined in this case.
