Got a tip on this last month and today the Washington State Lottery confirmed that an Everett man parlayed a one dollar winning ticket into a good-sized winner at the Safeway store on 19th SE near Silver Lake. Here’s the scoop.
The odds of matching all five white balls are 1 in 576 thousand.
After a recent $190,000 Hit 5 win, Michael Robinson of Everett is looking forward to an early retirement celebration. Robinson purchased his winning ticket for the July 2 drawing from an Everett-area Safeway (11031 19th Ave SE).
Robinson told lottery officials that he had bought a ticket for an earlier Hit 5 drawing and won $1. He decided to use that money to play Hit 5 again, and purchased what would become his lucky, winning ticket.
“I went back to the same Safeway, ordered a cup of coffee and checked my ticket,” said Robinson. “The vending machine had an unusual message, so I took my ticket up to the customer service desk. The manager’s jaw dropped and they said, ‘You’re a winner!’”
To make the celebration even sweeter, Robinson’s mother just happened to be shopping in Safeway at that time. After he finished celebrating with the customer service team, Robinson walked through the aisles to find his mother and share his exciting moment with her.
Robinson told lottery officials that he is a recent cancer survivor who planned to retire from his current position at Boeing sometime next year. Thanks to his big win, he now plans to retire right away.
“I told my boss this morning and he was happy as all get out for me,” said Robinson.
In addition to his early retirement, he plans to use his winnings to travel the country with his wife and visit the National Parks.
