On July 30th 2016 they celebrated Mari J’s first birthday with a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society. This year’s celebration will help support an organization that helps adults on the autism spectrum find employment opportunities. Here’s a bit more from Jessica.
“There will be special discounts on products throughout the day plus live music, games, food, a chance to meet vendors and a special dunk tank to raise funds for Invictus Enterprises,” said Jordan. “The people at Invictus run Work Readiness Clinics that help young adults with autism train and prepare for meaningful employment and a successful life.”
(Here’s a bit more about the work they do.)
Invictus Enterprises believes that adults with autism can succeed in demanding jobs, given the right kind of training. We set out to build our initial enterprise employing the theory that making the right modifications in targeted industries means that jobs can be accessed by our team members. Our program was created to support alternative learning styles, sensory sensitivities, and communication modalities (such as ‘talking’ via an iPad) in order to teach techniques for mastering real-world processes and job skills. These types of modifications – teaching through motor memory and visually-formatted methods – remain critical to the success of our young entrepreneurs. Artful adaptations are at the heart of what makes any Invictus micro-enterprise a success. They are what enables us to create and develop social enterprises run by, and for the benefit of, the autism community.
The party starts at 12 Noon and goes until 11 PM. The live music begins at 1 PM.
Mari J’s is located at 9506 19th Ave SE just off I-5 in the Eastmont neighborhood of Everett. For more information you can call them at (425) 379-8888. You can visit their website here.
