Everett Police Chief Dan Templeman has selected Capt. John DeRousse to serve as deputy chief beginning today, July 2, following the recent retirement of Deputy Chief James Lever. In his new role, DeRousse will oversee the Investigations and Administrative Services bureau of the department.

“I am pleased to announce the selection of John DeRousse to serve as the new deputy chief,” says Chief Dan Templeman. “Through John’s hard work and dedication, he earned the admiration and respect of his peers, from both within and outside of our organization. John is an energetic leader who strives for excellence and possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to competently assume the role of deputy chief. Through his leadership and actions, I have no doubt that he will continue to promote our agency vision as a leader in law enforcement.”

DeRousse has been with the Everett Police Department for the past 20 years, after serving as a sheriff’s deputy with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office for four years. He has served in a variety of assignments to include patrol and K-9, and his most recent assignment as captain of the Investigations Division. His role as captain included overseeing the recently formed countywide Interagency Child Abduction Response Team and the Snohomish County Multi Agency Response Team.

DeRousse has two Master’s Degrees: one in criminology from the University of Cincinnati, and one in homeland security from the Naval Post Graduate School. He also graduated from the FBI National Academy in March of 2017.
