Free gun locks are available weekdays at Everett Police precincts.

The City of Everett is giving away free gun locks to the public.

Free gun locks are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the North Precinct: 3002 Wetmore Ave. in downtown Everett or South Precinct: 1121 SE Everett Mall Way Suite 100 in south Everett.

The gun lock give-away is part of a firearm safety campaign called “Lock It Everett”. Here’s more in a press release today from the City of Everett.

The City of Everett is launching a firearm safety campaign to coincide with National Safety Month this June. ‘Lock It Everett’ urges current and future gun owners to educate themselves on proper storage and safety procedures for their firearms.

More than 100 firearms were stolen in Everett in 2017. These guns often end up on the streets, where they can be used in crimes. The Everett Police Department and the City of Everett encourage gun owners to take advantage of free gun locks provided at the north and south precincts.

“We are working multiple angles to address these issues,” said Dan Templeman, Everett Police Chief. “Through this campaign, we hope our community members will take steps to secure their firearms and help spread the message about the importance of safe, secure gun storage.”

This campaign is one of the initiatives in Mayor Cassie Franklin’s directiveaddressing youth and gun violence and gang activity in the City.

“The safety and wellbeing of all of our residents is a top priority for me and for our community,” said Franklin. “It’s critical that we all work to keep guns with their rightful owners and out of the hands of individuals committing crimes – especially our teens and young adults.”

The Everett Police Department is leading this campaign with support from City staff and a representative from the Snohomish Health District. Everett Police has partnered with gun retailers from around the city to help share the message.

Free gun locks are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday:

  • North Precinct: 3002 Wetmore Ave.
  • South Precinct: 1121 SE Everett Mall Way Suite 100
