It is ultimately up to the weather but the closure of the westbound Hewitt Avenue Trestle is back on for this weekend.
Here’s the information from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Travelers who want to use westbound US 2 to get to Interstate 5 need to adjust their plans starting June 1.
This weekend closure was originally scheduled for the weekend of May 18 – 19, but was rained out. This make-up closure is also weather-dependent.
Contractor crews working for the Washington Department of Transportation will close all lanes of westbound US 2 between the State Route 204 interchange and 51st Avenue Southeast from 7 p.m. Friday, June 1 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 4. Ramps to westbound US 2 from SR 204 and 20th Street Southeast will also be closed.
This is the first of six weekend closures required to complete a critical preservation and paving project on US 2. The work is necessary to keep the highway in a state of good repair for travelers and commerce relying on this vital corridor.
During the weekend closure, traffic on 20th Street Southeast under the trestle will be reversed to be westbound only from SR 204 to 51st Avenue Southeast.
Travel delays are expected on the detour as well as on nearby State Routes 9, 96 and 528.
