Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Edmonds recently earned a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). He is the first in the Everett Fire Department, and one of only 1,300 individuals in the nation, to receive this designation.

“This achievement by B.C. Edmonds shows his commitment to serving our community and developing his skills as a leader,” said Mayor Cassie Franklin. “The amount of service, expertise and overall hard work that went into receiving this honor is impressive and we’re very lucky to have him on our City team.”

The designation process assesses the candidate’s ongoing commitment to the job by evaluating their status and progress in seven areas:

Education
Experience
Professional development (training and certifications)
Professional contributions and recognitions
Professional memberships and affiliations
Technical competence
Community involvement
The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) is a national 11-member group made up of representatives from cross-sections of fire and emergency services, including emergency medical services, volunteer fire departments, city and county management, and the U.S. Department of Defense. The commission reviews officers applying for a designation, which recognizes the applicant’s career excellence and continual personal improvement. CFO’s must reapply for the designation every three years and demonstrate forward progress in the seven evaluation areas.

Edmonds joined Everett Fire in 1988 and has been serving the community for more than 30 years. He has served as a driver, captain, division chief and battalion chief. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Edmonds holds a bachelor’s degree in fire administration, a master’s degree in human relations and business and an executive level fire certification from Texas A&M University.
