Everett looks to increase tourism and the added dollars visitors spend in the city.

On Wednesday the Everett City Council approved $425,000.00 to sixteen city or non-profit groups that present events designed to bring out of town guests to Everett for overnight stays. The money comes from a fee added to the bill on every hotel or motel stay overnight in Everett. That money is then allocated once a year to events and activities that promote tourism with an emphasis on overnight stays. Applications are collected during the first couple of months each year and then an advisory committee and the city council budget committee looks over the applications and awards available funds. Here is the list for this year.

There were more requests than available funds so not every applicant got all they asked for.

In addition long term obligations earmarked by the fund include $150,000.00 to the arena in downtown Everett and $150,000.00 to the City of Everett’s Tourism Marketing Plan.
