EPD says pickpocket reports are on the rise.

It happens so quick you likely won’t realize it until you reach for your wallet and its gone.

Everett Police today announced pickpockets are working in the Everett area.

Here’s an update just put out by EPD on their Facebook page:

CRIME TREND ALERT:

Recent reports indicate victims are being “bumped” into or distracted at area businesses. Victims later realize their wallet is missing and their credit/debit accounts have been used. Detectives are investigating to develop suspect information.

Criminals are not necessarily sleazy people lurking around – Be aware of your surroundings & avoid pickpockets:

-Store valuables in your front pocket
-Carry purses & bags diagonally across the front of your body
-Take only what you need – remove extra credit/debit cards, ID, checks, cash, etc.
-Don’t leave your purse unattended
-Keep zippers zipped
-Shorten the strap on any purse or bag you are carrying
-Cover up electronics

Everett Police Spokesman Aaron Snell tells MyEverettNews.com the size of the store or number of people around doesn’t necessarily matter and that this is happening in various places in the Everett area.
