Editor’s Update 5:45 PM: Today Everett Police also revealed that during their search of the suspect’s home and journal Tuesday night they recovered evidence that the suspect and another unknown male robbed the AM/PM in the 900 block of Casino Road Monday night. There is video of the suspect allegedly holding a rifle wrapped in a coat during the robbery.

Editor’s Update 1:20 PM: An Everett District Court Judge has found probable cause to hold an 18-year-old high school student in jail on probable cause for attempted aggravated murder and assault 3rd degree. Bail has been set at $5 million dollars. Prosecutors have three days to file formal charges or release the teen from custody. Per our policy MyEverettNews.com is not naming the suspect as he has only been arrested, not charged.

Editor’s Update 10:35 AM: According to Probable cause documents written by Everett Police to outline the reasons for their arrest of the 18-year-old they say the suspect wrote in his journal that he “flipped a coin” on whether to conduct a mass shooting at Kamiak or Aces High and that Aces High won the coin flip. He also is said to have written that he had been studying other mass shootings in order to not make the same mistakes as past shooters. While at the Everett Police south precinct police say the suspect slipped out of a handcuff, broke free from the officer and ran across the parking lot in an attempt to escape. When he fell and an officer was trying to pick him up he “mule-kicked” the officer and fought being taken back into custody. The suspect will have an initial probable cause hearing this afternoon at 1 PM in Everett District Court.

The Mukilteo School District which runs Aces High issued the following statement today:

The Mukilteo School District is grateful to the student’s grandmother for doing what she did in informing the police of what she found. Her actions may have saved many lives and underscores the importance that if you see or hear of something suspicious, you need to notify authorities. The school district is also very grateful to the Everett Police Department for their fine work in preventing what would have been a major tragedy.

Everett Police detectives make arrest of 18-year-old in school shooting plot.

At about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, a grandmother called 911 to report what she believed were upcoming and credible threats by her 18 year-old grandson to shoot students at his high school. Officers responded to the 10600 block of Holly Dr, met with the grandmother, and were shown excerpts of the grandson’s journal. Officers were also told the grandson had a rifle stored in a guitar case. As officers reviewed copies of the journal, they were alarmed at the statements and detailed plans to shoot students and use homemade explosive devices at ACES High School (9700 Holly Dr).

With the information, officers contacted ACES High School to advise them of the threat and arrested the grandson at the school. During a search incident to arrest, officers found marijuana and a knife on his person. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on probable cause for attempted murder due to planning and taking substantial steps toward executing a school shooting.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit responded to the grandmother’s house where they served a search warrant to seize the journal, rifle, military styled inert grenades, and other evidentiary items.
