You don’t have to wait until the grand opening on March 1st. Farms and Market is now open every day from 8 AM – 8 PM.

While the official ribbon cutting isn’t set until March 1st, Farms and Market is now open inside Grand Ave Marketplace at 2900 Grand Avenue beneath the Grand Avenue Apartments (formerly Potala Place).

It’s not a traditional Farmers Market but what is called a Farm Based Market. General Manager Alicia Moreno explained there are three main components. Farm stands, a simple grocery and prepared foods.

“It depends on how much energy you want to put into cooking your meal,” Moreno said. “You can pick up all or just some of the ingredients and pick up prepared items made fresh by our staff in our production kitchen.”

Some of the stands are leased by local farmers including Sno Valley Gardens, Puget Sound Shellfish and Golden Glen Creamery. Other stands offer produce from around the Northwest. Shoppers will also find a large selection of wine from around the area.

In addition to the stands and production kitchen there’s a cafe which opens daily at 11:00 AM. Right now the cafe is featuring a winter menu with such items as Portuguese Kale and Bean Soup, Artisan Cheese Plate, a Cider Brined Pork Chop and a Nourish Bowl containing delicata squash, rice noodles, portabella mushrooms, tofu, edamame, pea shoots in a garlic-mushroom broth. Wine, beer and cider are also available. The menu will change with the seasons.

“We’re excited to be a place for people looking to experience the best of what local farmers and producers have to offer,” said Moreno. “Our customers care about supporting them directly.”

Moreno added that the concept is unique and they are looking forward to having people come in and help them figure out this new experience and provide input on the space as it evolves. Initially most of the customers are expected to come from the downtown Everett core but as it grows and more businesses move into the Grand Ave Marketplace they expect it to become a regional draw.

Farms and Market is open seven days a week from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Again it is open right now for folks to check it out with the grand opening celebration set for March 1st.
