Traffic was backed up on I-5 after the man crashed on the side of the freeway.

It’s actually amazing no one was seriously hurt after a 44-year-old man went on a crime spree that stretched from Everett to Marysville on Christmas Day.

According to probable cause papers filed by Everett Police this all started when a Transit Supervisor was sitting in his vehicle at the QFC parking lot at Everett and Broadway. The 44-year-old man came up to the driver’s side window of the supervisor’s SUV and demanded a gas card. When that request was refused the man reached into the vehicle and tried to take a lunch box and also tore a speaker off a laptop and threw it at the supervisor.

The man left but came back with a pocket knife. The supervisor tried to roll up his window but was prevented by the suspect’s hand holding down the window. He began hitting the suspect’s hand with a flashlight until the suspect let go. The suspect then tried to stab one of the SUV’s tires with the knife. The supervisor began driving away and the suspect followed ramming the back of the supervisor’s SUV with his car before driving away as Everett Police arrived.

Per scanner traffic, an Everett Police officer followed the suspect’s car and tried to stop it but pulled over and let it go due to the reckless driving he was observing. The suspect’s car was last seen getting onto I-5.

A few minutes later the Washington State Patrol advised of a one-car roll over accident involving that car before the 88th street exit on I-5. The driver had run from the crash and traffic was backing up to 4th street.

Marysville Police set up containment and after a citizen in Marysville used a baseball bat to run the man off his property, he was caught by Marysville PD officers and turned over to Everett PD.

After a trip to the hospital for an evaluation the man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of:
1st Degree Robbery
2nd Degree Assault
Reckless Driving and DUI
He’s expected to make his first appearance before an Everett District Court judge this afternoon.
