29 people would like to be appointed to one open seat on the Everett City Council.

Yesterday Cassie Franklin resigned her seat on the Everett City Council. She’s now concentrating on her transition to Mayor and will be sworn in January 3rd. The process to fill her now vacant council position is underway with 29 people submitting applications for review by the remaining council members. The 29 who applied are from 14 neighborhoods across the city. Here’s that breakout…

  • Northwest Neighborhood — 4
  • Delta — 4
  • Port Gardner — 3
  • Glacier View — 3
  • Pinehurst — 2
  • Bayside — 2
  • Silver Lake — 2
  • View Ridge/Madison — 2
  • South Forest Park — 2
  • Lowell — 1
  • Evergreen — 1
  • Cascade View — 1
  • Twin Creeks — 1
  • Harborview/Seahurst/Glenhaven — 1

The next step in the process is for each applicant to give a five minute introduction to the Everett City Council at the meeting on Wednesday December 20th. After that “elevator pitch” the city council members will each nominate their top two picks to move forward. That pool will be whittled down to the top six candidates.

After seeing the top six selected on December 20th, community members wishing to comment on the six finalists are asked to send comments via email to council@everettwa.gov no later than Friday, Dec. 22.

The top six will be interviewed at a special city council meeting on January 3rd at 3:00 PM. The interviews are open to the public. No specific date has been set for the final decision but it is expected in early January. Here are the names of the 29 applicants:
