This afternoon a 19-year-old man was shot in the back while in a car across from Providence Regional Medical Center. It happened shortly after 4:00 PM in a parking lot on the north side of 13th street across from the emergency room.

Sgt. Maryjane Hacker, a spokesperson for Everett Police tells MyEverettNews.com a group of people were visiting a person who was recovering from a gunshot wound received last night on Casino Road. As the group was sitting in a red Suburban in a parking lot across from Providence Hospital a gun went off striking the 19-year-old in the back. At least two people left the Suburban on foot.

Doctors from the emergency room were called over to the parking lot and tended to the man who had been shot. They then brought him back over to the emergency room.

The hospital was locked down for a little more than an hour as a safety precaution while police looked for all of the people involved.

Everett Police arriving in the area detained two people about a block from the hospital. After reviewing video and talking with witnesses police took the two to the Everett Police north precinct for further discussions about this accidental shooting. At lease one of the two people detained is a juvenile.

A handgun was recovered outside of the hospital and Sgt. Hacker tells MyEverettNews.com the 19-year-old’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. He was expected to undergo surgery tonight.

She didn’t have any new information on the two shootings that happened last night on Casino Road. Both remain under investigation.
