The City of Everett is inviting residents to mark International Overdose Awareness Day this Thursday by participating in an event at Silver Lake Park in south Everett. What is International Overdose Awareness Day?

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

In Everett the event is called A Night to Remember, A Time to Act: there will be a candlelight vigil at Thornton A. Sullivan Park in Silver Lake from 7 – 8:30 PM. There will be speakers, a visual memorial of people lost and also resources to help people and families struggling with addiction. Candles will be provided but you may want to bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

If you wish to have a photo of a loved one remembered during the program, post a picture on this Facebook page “A Night to Remember – A Time to Act” or send it in via email dwarfhome@hotmail.com by the end of today.
