Sponsors stepped up with funds to cover City of Everett insurance requirements.

Last week we told you about the group RiverJunky and their plans to clean up areas along the Snohomish River in Everett and Snohomish County along the Lowell-Snohomish River Road.

Things hit a snag with the City of Everett but sponsors including Paul Davis Restoration and others stepped up with funds to fully cover the city’s insurance requirements and today the clean up has been moving along and about 50 volunteers from around western Washington are here working along the river.

RiverJunky has a base camp set up at Rotary Park boat launch and then teams have been fanning out from there. Volunteers are entered into a drawing for prizes and there is also RiverJunky swag for sale to help raise funds. Members of the Snohomish County Sheriffs Office of Neighborhoods are here providing security and also offering services to people found living along the river. One man, whose name was Al actually volunteered to join the clean up effort after packing up his campsite. RiverJunky expects to fill up multiple dumpsters by early this afternoon. They are also providing lunch for the volunteers and pay all dump fees and expenses. Here are some MyEverettNews.com photos from today’s efforts. Click photo to enlarge.
