The show will go on next weekend!

On Wednesday the Everett City Council gave the final street closure approvals and next weekend the annual Memorial Day party in downtown Everett known as Cruzin’ 2 Colby will be back in all its chrome covered glory.

In November of last year we told you the event was in jeopardy after the Rusty Relics Car Club lost its host hotel. Lonnie Meadows told us between the loss of the central meeting place and the amount of work it took to put on the show they didn’t think they could continue.

Fast forward to this year and Joel Starr who used to own the Flying Pig in downtown Everett and Dale Newman who owns the Massage Clinic on Rucker formed a committee to keep the car show going. They formed a 501(c)(3) non-profit and began lining up everything to save the show. They’ve secured a new host hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott at Colby and Wall. For the Sunday Colby Cruise, staging will take place at EverPark Garage on Hoyt and Hewitt and the public can also park there for the Monday car show.

“It’s just so important to the community,” said Starr. “Not only does it help the downtown Everett businesses but every year fifteen to twenty thousand dollars goes straight to local charities.”

Any street legal car is welcome to cruise Colby next Sunday but you must pre-register.

So if you’d like to cruise Colby next Sunday between 1PM and 5PM here’s what you need to do. They’d like you to pre-register this week. You can do so here on the website. If you’d rather register in person to cruise Colby you can do so between 8 AM and 12 Noon at Wall and Colby Sunday morning. Any kind of car is welcome as long as it is licensed and street legal.

There’s also a sock hop Sunday night from 6 – 10 PM at Tony V’s Garage on Hewitt just west of Wetmore.

Classic car

Hundreds of cars and thousands of people pack the streets of downtown Everett every Memorial Day.

For the Memorial Day Show ‘N Shine Starr expects up to 800 cars. There will also be food and product vendors, music and voting for your favorite car. Colby and the other downtown area streets will be closed with staging starting at 5 AM. The actual viewing opens at 8 AM and runs until 4 PM. Because of the sponsor’s ability to cover the hard costs of the show Starr says he expects all of the entry fees for the Show ‘N Shine to pass right through to charity.

One other thing Starr wants people to know. They can still use volunteer help. Both for the event itself as well as people interested in the future of the show. If you’d like to help you can learn more on the official website here.
