Everett Kicking Off Green Garden, Green Home Program

Next week the City of Everett will kick of a series of events for gardeners. Here are the details…

The City of Everett will hold multiple workshops and tours this spring to promote natural yard care – green gardening practices that make yards easier to maintain and healthier for kids, pets and the environment. The garden lecture series will be held at Legion Hall, 145 Alverson Blvd., from 6- 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, and Tuesday, May 2, followed by a rain garden tour on Thursday, May 4.

At the April 25 workshop, Everett Arboretum President Trevor Cameron will take participants on a tour of the Everett Arboretum and Gardens and explore the current renovations happening on site. Attendees will explore best practices for transitioning their landscapes and selecting the best plant for their growing conditions. On Tuesday, May 2, learn about how to attract more pollinators and use wildlife for pest control at the Wildlife-Friendly Gardening lecture.

On May 4, take a walking tour of many of the beautiful local rain gardens in north Everett. Get inspired as you learn more about these unique landscaped gardens that help manage stormwater runoff. The walking tour starts at Washington Oakes at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re excited about these upcoming events,” said Apryl Hynes, Everett public education specialist. “The Green Garden, Green Home program provides simple, effective strategies that benefit homeowners while helping to protect our environment and manage stormwater runoff on their property.”

In addition to the green garden lectures, the City of Everett will continue its popular rain barrel program with a rain barrel sale on Saturday, April 29, or “Make it, Take it” workshop on Tuesday, May 9.
