Everett Police Arrest Suspect In New Armed Burglary
Everett Police arrested an armed man who kicked in the door of an occupied apartment Tuesday morning.
Everett Police yesterday arrested a 28-year-old Everett man for 1st degree burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm. According to probable cause papers outlining the man’s arrest, an Everett Police officer wrote that at about 9:20 AM Tuesday morning the man kicked in the door of an occupied apartment, smashing the door jam. He was armed with a semi-automatic pistol. The two people in the apartment locked themselves in their bedroom. One called 9-1-1 from the bedroom closet. The suspect pounded on the bedroom door while yelling profanities.
He left the apartment as Everett Police were arriving. Officers located him a few blocks away and found the pistol in the yard where he was stopped. He reportedly told police he is a convicted felon and former gang member. The people who were in the apartment at the time he kicked in the door told officers they did not know the man but had seen him at their neighbor’s apartment.
The incident took place at an apartment complex near Silver Lake in south Everett. Everett Police spokesman Aaron Snell tells MyEverettNews.com via e-mail…
-There does not appear to be a specific motive for the incident
-The incident does not appear gang motivated
-It did not appear targeted, an intended home invasion robbery, or a specific intent to assault
While there is no confirmation, it is possible the suspect had recently used illegal substances which might have led to his behavior.
The man made his first court appearance today and is being held in the Snohomish County Jail.
