The Red Cross has been called to help a man and woman after their apartment suffered a kitchen fire shortly after 8:00 this morning.

Smoke was reported coming out a second story window as fire crews arrived at the small brick apartment house on the corner of Hoyt and Everett Avenue across from the downtown Everett Library.

Quick work by Everett Firefighters limited the fire to the kitchen area but smoke damage left the apartment uninhabitable.

No one was injured and all of the other residents were allowed to return to their apartments.

An investigator is on scene but no word yet on the cause of the fire.
