An attempted rip-off of a pound and a half of marijuana looks to be the reason that one man is dead and another in the hospital after an early morning shooting Monday.

At least that appears to be the case according to probable cause papers filed by Everett Police in the arrest of a 22-year-old Kenmore man for Manufacture and Delivery of a controlled substance.

According to the paperwork, the man from Kenmore told a friend he wanted to get rid of the “medical mariuana” he had. The friend spoke with someone in Everett who reportedly agreed to “donate” $3000.00 for the medical marijuana.

They arranged to meet in an alley behind a church just north of Clark Park. The two drove to Everett.

As the two with the marijuana drove into the alley one Everett man got into the back seat with a pistol and the other Everett man, also with a pistol, stood outside the driver’s window.

The man in the back seat reportedly began pistol whipping the man with the marijuana who ran from the car. At the same time, the driver floored the gas and went north through the alley.

The two Everett men began chasing the man with the marijuana, who it turns out also had a gun and fired shots at them, killing one and inuring the other.

Everett police officers happened to be nearby on a diffferent call and heard the shots. They were able to stop the two men and their car. While dealing with them the injured man approached and advised them he’d been shot.

After police interviewed all parties involved the man with the marijuana was booked into the Snohomish County jail on probable cause drug charges.

There may be other charges filed but at this time Everett police continue to sort out whether this is a case of self-defense or something else. They still have a lot of evidence to process.

The 22-year-old Kenmore man is expected to make his first court appearance this afternoon.
