The Firefighter Stairclimb is next weekend.

You may have noticed members of the Everett Fire Department along with family members in front of the Everett Costco today collecting donations. We stopped by to check it out and Everett Firefighter Brad Schmidt, who is coordinating the effort this year, explained what was happening…

Firefighters and family members were at the Everett Costco from 10am – 2pm.

Everett Firefighters are raising funds and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Leukemia, for example, is sadly the most common cancer affecting children.

Next weekend 48 members of the Everett Fire Department will participate in the annual Firefighter Stairclimb. A timed race up the stairs at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle in 35+ pounds of full fire gear and SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus). Participants will be climbing 69 flights of stairs, 1311 steps, and go up 788 feet in vertical elevation.

This is the largest number of Everett Firefighters to participate in the Stairclimb. The goal of Everett Firefighters is to raise $40,000.00 this year. That’s also a record for Everett Fire.

To encourage people to donate, Everett Firefighters have a special raffle…
