Richard Wendt Award of Excellence

Si Newland is the recipient of the Richard Wendt Award of Excellence for his extraordinary commitment to Everett’s arts community. Newland served on the City’s Cultural Arts Commission in the formative years, and then went on to serve for 12 years on the board of the Arts Council of Snohomish County as it transitioned into one of Everett’s leading anchor arts organizations, now known as The Schack Art Center.

The Wendt Award is given annually to a person or organization who has demonstrated outstanding support of the arts throughout their lifetime. The award is named for Dr. Richard Wendt, who passed away in 2007. Wendt was a long-time promoter of the arts in Everett and helped found the City’s Cultural Arts Commission and the 1% for the Arts program.

Mayor’s Arts Awards

In recognition of Everett’s growing arts scene, the Cultural Arts Commission created the Mayor’s Arts Awards to honor art educators, artists in the community, arts organizations and emerging artists that have made an impact on the Everett arts community.

This year’s Mayor’s Arts Award winners are:

  • All Aboard, Art Changing Lives. All Aboard works with adults with special needs to enrich their lives through the arts.
  • Legacy of Honor, Bob Henry for positively transforming the lives of Everett High School students through theatre, 1958-1979.
  • Arts Educator, Erica Weir for her achievements and contributions to arts education.
  • Organization Making an Impact, Ryan Crowther of Everett Music Initiative for cultivating a vibrant music scene in Everett
