Flashing lights, bright colors and signs mark the location of the small family business.
There is one thing unusual though. The Barber Shop on Evergreen Way has taken the drastic step of no longer accepting cash. The move comes after a recent series of robberies at small businesses in Everett.
Brenda Humbert is the owner. “It’s just not worth the risk,” Humbert said. “Somebody put a gun in the face of the clerk at the place across the street a half hour after we closed.”
There’s now a sign on the front door that says NO CASH, SORRY.
Humbert says she’s sad that it came to this. “What a hassle for our customer, especially when they are making small purchases,” Humbert said. “More fees for the business owner as well, prices go up, no honest person wins at this game!”
You can use your debit card, credit card or even Pay Pal but there’s now no cash on hand at the Barber Shop Stop.
For the past few weeks different small businesses in Everett, Washington including ice cream shops, espresso stands and other small shops have been robbed. In some cases the robber has been caught but there are several robberies where the suspect is still outstanding.
Everett Police continue to work the cases and ask anyone with information to call their tip line at 425-257-8405.
