Bob Overstreet joined the Everett City Council in 1976

Tonight’s Everett City Council meeting started off on a sad note as Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson announced the passing of Bob Overstreet. Overstreet served 30 years on the Everett City Council and was first elected in 1976. He pushed hard for fewer morning council meetings so there could be more public participation.

He was also heavily involved in Boy Scouts serving 10 years as a scoutmaster and as President of the Evergreen Area BSA from 1986 – 1988. He owned and managed Puget Press from 1965 – 1991. He is survived by his wife Myrna, four children and multiple grandchildren.

In other Everett City Council notes…it was the last meeting as President for Scott Murphy. Every year the city council elects a new President and in a unanimous vote, Vice-President Judy Tuohy was chosen as President for 2017. She announced Cassie Franklin as her choice for Vice-President.

This is the first time both the President and Vice President positions on the council have been held by women. A fact noted by the third woman on the Everett City Council, Brenda Stonecipher.
