Mari J’s Marks 1st Year in Everett

Events in Everett, Everett

Mari J's

The party goes until 8:00 PM.

Mari J’s Highway Pot Shop in the Eastmont Neighborhood of Everett is marking their first anniversary today.

It has been quite a journey for Jessica Jordon, owner of Mari J’s…“I first applied in December of 2013,” said Jessica. The doors however didn’t open until July 31st 2015. Mari J’s was the fourth of five retail marijuana stores authorized inside the Everett City limits. Now even though earlier this year the State of Washington says there can be five more stores in Everett, the city council has voted to cap the number at the current five.

MyEverettNews.com tried to get more than just a word with Jordan but she was super busy today working the anniversary so we’ll do a follow up interview to see what the first year has been like and what the future holds as medical marijuana may soon be added to the store’s offerings.

As far as today’s celebration there are all kinds of events happening until 8:00 PM including food, an auction featuring jewelry, artwork, a guitar, show and sporting tickets and many more items with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. There are factory reps, vendors and experts on hand to answer questions about all kinds of marijuana products. There’s also live music. The event runs until 8:00 PM at 9506 19th Ave. SE in the Eastmont neighborhood of Everett.

  1. Name Withheld Says:

Better than boiling your own urine to extract the meth.

  2. Bourne Says:

Just so I’m clear, if I open a new business in Everett and then on my first year anniversary of the opening I’ll receive a stellar write up published on this local news site? Right? It’s only fair.

    • anon Says:

Perhaps when the businesses have limited number of locations you can purchase their products.

There’s also been other businesses mentioned in this blog that aren’t marijuana related. Go back to reading the Herald and you can read about marijuana every day.

Nope that is reserved for our advertisers who support us with annual agreement. They support us and we do our best to support them.

  3. Bourne Says:

Can’t wait for Trump to start cleaning up the stoned trash in the streets, in our schools, and in our government.

    • Eleanore Says:

      Screw Trump

    • anon Says:

Yep. His biggest priority will be cleaning up the streets of Everett, WA.

      • Enwurd_Snowden Says:

Cuck-servatives just want a big strong leather-daddy figure to come around and tell them what to do. Trump isn’t an anomaly, he is the ideal and pinnacle of Republican thought for decades: bigoted, capricious, weaselly, violent and authoritarian.

      • Bourne Says:

No. One of his top priorities will be to stop federal funding to cities that don’t abide by federal laws. No federal check for you Everett. We’ll see how that flies at the city council meeting.

    • anon Says:

Your visions of stoned people in the streets is not related to weed.

      • Concerned Citizen Says:

Weed may not be their choice of drug now, but you’d be surprised how many on the streets STARTED with weed.

      • anon Says:

Yeah. Because none of those people ever abused a prescription drug before? C’mon. It’s easy to say it started at weed, because it’s a common and legal product.

You might as well say that you can trace back all drug addicts to Tylenol or Advil. Because that makes just about the same amount of logic.
Go back to your 1992 D.A.R.E. program, you mis-informed citizen. Start reading the facts, so you don’t have to be concerned anymore.

  4. Eleanore Says:

ban booze its far worse than a harmless weed

  5. Bourne Says:

I wonder how many additional car wrecks are caused by people under the influence of ‘just a plant?’

File this ? under : Things you will never see published in the western WA press.

    • Eleanore Says:

Been smoking it since 75 no car accidents nice try tho keep demonizing the little plant while you get drunk

      • Bourne Says:

Ya must be smoking some ditch weed.

        http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/may/10/marijuana-related-fatal-car-accidents-surge-washin/

PS: I do not drink alcohol. I have no reason to escape reality although, another couple of years of living in Everett I may feel differently.

      • anon Says:

For someone who doesn’t smoke weed- how do you know the potency, and what should be classified as “Ditch Weed.”

Also, despite your misconceptions. Marijuana does not transport you to a far off planet. In fact, it makes you more critical and kind of an a-hole! You’d really enjoy it.

Lastly- Because I smoked a joint a week ago. It stays in your system longer than any other drug. When a fatal accident occurs, they test the blood. Just because it’s in the system doesn’t mean that the person was under any sort of influence of it. Think of it like an antibiotic.

If alcohol stayed in the system, every person who drank over the weekend that gets pulled over would be a DUI.

    • anon Says:

Def not as many as texting, or drinking.

  6. Eleanore Says:

Calm down people its just a plant geezuz

  7. Mike Says:

I was on 24 different prescriptions for my psoriatic arthritis, degenerative disc disease, IBS and PTSD. My family saw me self medicate with alcohol, they saw me be a legal junkie on all of the pharmaceuticals, but they prefer the medical marijuana me. Since I found medical marijuana I have gotten my life back and have gone from 24 prescriptions to 4, one of which is weed, now explain to me again how this is bad?

    • Eleanore Says:

I smoke to combat the effects of chemo, its a harmless plant IMO

    • anon Says:

Nobody responded because they don’t know what to say when it applies to a real legitimate purpose. It’s easy to judge a weed smoker, until you see their bald head and weight loss, or you talk to them about what their health issues are.

The people who shame marijuana smokers should be ashamed. It’s same thing as shaming a chemo patient, or making fun of someone for taking something out of surgery. Then again, the same people probably made fun of the retards in high school, and laugh at wheelchairs.

Sure, they’re plenty of douche baggy marijuana smokers. But there’s plenty of Dbags in the world overall. Just look at this comments section.

      • Wa-fix Says:

If you treat it as a prescription drug and remove the income and abuse it has, there probably and truly are some benefits to it. The problem is the ease to make it and profitability from the sales whether it is “legal” or “illegal”. The core issue, of which you are ignoring, is the abuse the drug brings to families and individuals. No matter what people say, weed is the gateway drug to better and different highs. It’s the entrance of another world which 9/10 drug deals say they started on.

      • anon Says:

You blame marijuana for addicts like there’s no such thing as willpower?

There are a ton of benefits of smoking marijuana, with or without a prescription. And now that it’s legal, you can purchase it at the store like tylenol when it went OTC.

People eat marijuana, and they eat McDonalds. I can tell you which one has health benefits, and which one is literally killing you like a cigarette.

If you’re an addict- I blame your lack of willpower, you incredibly poor choices, and you inability to get clean. Not that joint you smoked way back in middle school. You can also blame your friends, for egging you on with peer pressure. Maybe even that first cigarette you smoked, before you smoked your first bong rip. People make too many poor decisions, and blame them on outside factors. Society lets this happen.

There is no other “drug” in society that one can be a full blown “addict” and still function to their fullest, and have a better quality of life.

      • anon Says:

The saddest part to my above statement is that parents can take their 5 year old’s to get heart disease at a fast food establishment, but people smoking marijuana are frowned upon in society when they do it in the privacy of their own home.

        Give me an F’n break.

  8. Mike N Says:

This state has officially gone to hell in a handbasket.

  9. Bourne Says:

So proud to be a resident of Everett where the only businesses making money sell federally banned drugs. So proud.

    • allan Says:

You have a negative comment for most articles in this publication. You sir, are an embarrassment to this city.

    • anon Says:

      Aint it the American dream?

    • Mark Warren Says:

      really..

I seem to ntice many company’s doing really good business. But of course you are the expert.

Why dont you leave since you hate it here so much? I hear that Kansas is wonderful this time of year and they have the same morals as you do. slash taxes on the 1% and make the workers pick up the tab….

      #WarrenProject

  10. anon Says:

Why would he do that? Nobody is offended, you’re just stupid.

  11. wa-fix Says:

Technically illegal federally, Trump will send in his ATF agents and shut these losers down in a matter of a few months.

And for all the offended liberals who are about to be offended by my comment, the election is over and was over when the rigged DNC nominated the most corrupt and scandal filled candidate in history. More to come from those DNC emails, not good.

    • anon Says:

A conservative that believes the big feds should come in and take out all the weed? I thought we weren’t supposed to believe in government coming in and taking our things away from us. I’m a conservative who smokes weed. Some people like it more than drinking.

I don’t drink, and you don’t see me complaining about all the beer cans on the streets. Find me weed packages and tell me alcohol isn’t the bigger problem here in this city. If you think otherwise you’re going to be wrong.

It’s probably time to stop smoking cigarettes, because they kill people. And prescription drugs need an overhaul. And alcohol gets weirder and weirder by making 4loko. And the issue with marijuana is that it’s federally illegal? So is filming porn without a condom in certain states. Nobody really cares.

      • Wa-fix Says:

“Conservatives” like you, probably also believe in a strong and powerful military too. That is also, in the same way “government”. Conservatives aren’t against government, but against the size of it and impact in everyday life of the individual generally. Get your facts straight.

Don’t put words in my mouth either, I’m more pro weed than I am alcohol. By definition and fact, alcohol is more damaging to society and the individual than weed.

      • anon Says:

There you go again being a complete hypocrite. Putting words in my mouth and defining my persona for the world.

        Wrong you are.

How long did it take you to conclude alcohol is worse for you? By definition and fact. I can provide definitions and facts on how marijuana could be beneficial to society!

The world would be way less uptight, like your panties in your crevice.

    • Mark Warren Says:

funny how these people who say they support the constitution, these CONservatives are more than willing to subvert the will of the people when it fits their purposes. They scream ‘states rights’…. except when it comes to marijuana…

YOU look like you need a few more drinks before you leave the bar…
