Everett, Everett Fire

Editor’s Update 3:25 PM: We received the following from Leslie Hynes regarding this morning’s fire…

A two-alarm fire caused more than $225,000 damage and displaced four adults and one child from a duplex in unincorporated south Everett this morning.

Fire dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 4:45 a.m. reporting smoke and flames coming from the duplex in the 400 block of 105th St. SW. “Firefighters saw a large column of black smoke as they approached. When the first fire engine arrived, all residents from both duplex units had safely exited and flames were burning through the roof,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Crews from Fire Districts 1 and 7, Lynnwood, Everett and Mukilteo responded. No one was injured. Remodels and additions to the building over the years made it challenging for firefighters to get at flames in the attic. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

One duplex unit is a total loss. The other unit had fire damage in the kitchen and light smoke damage throughout. The owner and residents have insurance. The Fire District 1 Volunteer Chaplain/Support 7 Team and Red Cross responded to assist the fire victims.

Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire may have been started by self-heating of beauty bark on the exterior of the house igniting nearby vinyl siding and spreading into the attic.
