Editor’s Update 4:20 PM: Everett Police say the driver of the truck was a 32-year-old woman who had taken it around 9:30 AM in the Getchell area near Lake Stevens. MyEverettNews.com reader Vitaliy Ilchuk sent us the following dash cam video clip of the truck going the wrong way on I-5 this morning between Marysville and Everett.
Police in at least three cities are comparing notes and a woman faces multiple charges after a bizarre chain of events Sunday morning.Details are not complete but it apparently started around 9:40 AM in Lake Stevens when a blue and white Chevy pickup truck ran from a Sheriff’s deputy there. Due to the way the truck was being operated the deputy discontinued the chase.
A few minutes later the truck was spotted by Marysville Police going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5. Marysville Police did not chase the truck due to the danger.
Shortly after 10:00 AM an Everett Police officer spotted the truck coming off I-5 onto Everett Mall Way at a high rate of speed westbound. The truck blew past the Everett patrol car which did not give chase.
A few seconds later the officer reported seeing what appeared to be a crash.
At 3rd SE and Everett Mall Way the truck caused a multi-vehicle wreck involving at least two cars and a hotel shuttle van. The woman driving the truck jumped out ran east down 3rd SE.
She reportedly told one bystander to not follow her as she had a knife. The woman then ran into the woods on the east side of 3rd SE.
A K-9 unit was brought in and the woman was found hiding in the woods. A knife was recovered.
The woman was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center to be checked out and is expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail later on multiple charges.
Everett Mall Way was shut down in both directions between Intercity and 5th SE for the investigation.
While shaken up, there were no serious injuries reported by the other people hit by the truck. Here are some MyEverettNews.com photos from the scene.
