It may be the weather but there were fewer illegal fireworks complaints handled by Everett Police this year compared to last. For the period July 1st through July 5th last year Everett Police showed 360 calls while this year there were 298 calls. 198 of this year’s calls came on the 4th of July itself.
Everett Police did issue seven citations and seized 100 pounds of explosives. The city’s bomb technicians will take care of safely disposing of those. There were also 82 warnings given to people about fireworks.
The vast majority of the calls for service were cleared with notes that the people shooting off the fireworks were gone by the time police arrived. Extra officers have been on fireworks detail since Friday. Last night major crimes detectives and Everett Police Chief Dan Templeman joined the extra patrols. There were also lots of extra Everett Police officers staffing the 4th of July parade and the party at Legion Park and Thunder on the Bay public fireworks display.
