People living in and around the Casino Road area of south Everett area are invited to a free safety fair this Saturday. Here’s what you need to know and a list of groups participating…

From hands-on fire extinguisher demonstrations to child car seat safety checks, the City of Everett will host a free public safety fair for the Casino Road community on Saturday, April 23. Everett Police, Fire, Emergency Management, Parks and Neighborhoods staff will join with local agencies for a day of family fun and public safety tips, information and exhibits.

“This event is a chance for parents and children to learn about safety in a fun, non-emergency environment,” said Fire Marshal Eric Hicks. “Parents and children can see our fire trucks up close and ask questions of police officers, firefighters and emergency management staff.”

The City’s first-ever public safety fair will take place Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Horizon Elementary School (222 West Casino Road). Attendees will have a chance to participate in safety demonstrations by police officers and firefighters, and explore specific topics through a variety of discussions, workshops and short trainings. A Spanish-speaking interpreter will be available.

Everett Fire will be on hand to show how fire trucks work, give water hose demonstrations and simulate kitchen fires in their smoke house safety trailer. Everett Police will provide information on block watch programs, gang education and proper car seat installation. Attendees can also learn about earthquake preparedness, water safety, domestic violence prevention, and more. Refreshments will be provided.

“We all play a role in preventing emergencies and helping our community during a crisis, and we are excited to partner with other agencies on this great event,” said Deputy Police Chief Jim Lever. “This is an opportunity for neighbors to develop relationships with each other and with local organizations.”

In addition to safety demonstrations, participants can learn more about City programs and local organizations involved in the Casino Road community, including:
Everett Neighborhood Associations

• Everett Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program

Casino Road Soccer Camp

• American Red Cross

• Mukilteo YMCA

• Cocoon House
